HOW ENVIRONMENT CHANGES OUR GENETIC MAKEUP

In conversations of race, comments pointing to the long-lasting and pervasive effects of slavery and the trans-Atlantic slave trade are often dismissed with statements like, “why can’t Blacks just get over that?” or “that was in the past.” The documentary below shows how the science of epigenetics proves that environmental events can and do impact the expression of our genes.

 

Here, the BBC documentary “The Ghosts in Your Genes” follows the investigations into this emerging field in genetics. It provides evidence on how the events and traumas our ancestors endured not only changes their genetic expression of traits but how those changes are then passed from generation to the next. This new field of epigenetics is changing how scientist view evolution, genetics and heredity.

 

What’s particularly important to me are the implications this has for the study of Black life and culture in the U.S. Studies have already been done on the trans-generational impacts of European famines and the Jewish Holocaust. What truths have yet to be revealed about the lingering effects of the greatest holocaust known to man, the holocaust of Slavery and the Atlantic Slave trade???

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ON CIA & MIND CONTROL

Here is another excellent and comprehensive documentary on the CIA’s role in using torture, murder, cover ups and experiments in order to develop mind control techniques. These methods included the gassing of soldiers, the drugging of unwitting prisoners, citizens, and government officials, and the torture (via medical/psychological experimentation) of mental health patients.

 

This documentary also presents little known information on some of the deaths associated with these crimes, particularly the death of Ft. Detrick Bio-weapons expert Frank Olson who, after being drugged by the CIA, was said to have committed suicide by jumping from a hotel window. Subsequent exhumation and autopsy reveiled that he could not have jumped and was assaulted and thrown out of the window. The CIA has long ago accepted blame for the death (the suicide version) and has even made payments to the family. (Ironically Dick Cheney & Donald Rumsfeld, then in the Nixon administration, coerced president Nixon to invite the family to the white house to minimize the amount of political damage done as a result of Olson’s death.)

 

The information in this documentary (as well as the previously posted History Channel documentary) really should cast doubt on the “official” stories surrounding events like the 2001 anthrax attacks and the eventual “suicide” of the main suspect….. a Ft. Detrick bio-weapons expert.

*MUST SEE*: BILL MOYERS ON GOV’T LIES & SECRECY

This is the EXCELLENT documentary “Secret Government: The Constitution in Crisis” by the renowned, respected and award winning journalist Bill Moyers.

 

Next to the Discovery Channel’s “CIA: America’s Secret Warriors”, this is the most fact based, authoritative and all encompassing analysis of the covert operations and illegal actions of the U.S. government i’ve seen. Starting with Iran/Contra as a case study in the lies and secrecy of the “secret government”, the film eventually broadens its scope to give the history of covert operations, both foreign and domestic, in the U.S. Starting with the smuggling of Nazi war criminals out of Germany and into the U.S., the film also touches on illegal, covert government actions like destabilizing Guatemala and Iran, Operation Phoenix (the assassination missions in Viet Nam), the causes of the Viet Nam war itself, Watergate and the inner workings of the Iran/Contra affair.

 

There are several things that make this documentary great. One, it clearly brings to light some of the major illegal actions of the government. In addition, it uses first hand reports of actual participants, congressional testimony and other verifiable documentation as sources. Next, it comes from a reputable source like Moyers, a past lifetime achievement recipient of both the Peabody and the Polk award (tops in the field of journalism) to name just a couple of his credentials. Last, with all of the images, videos, documents and testimony, it takes what would otherwise be called “conspiracy theories” and shows them for the facts of American history that they are.

 

Why focus on these types of activities by our government? The answer is simple, by knowing the depths of wickedness and illegality that the U.S. has engaged in before, it puts today’s events in thier proper context. By watching the facts laid out in this documentary, the U.S.’s role as assassinator, destabilizer, domestic eavesdropper, torturer, terrorist, and international and domestic drug and gun runner is no longer a ranting from left wing, conspiracy nuts…it’s documented history reapeating itself in today’s events.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CASTRO & CUBA STORY

Here is a documentary that offers a more balanced and sympathetic view of Fidel Castro and the Cuban revolution.

 

The real story goes something like this: Cuba is infested with leeching American corporations and mafia fronts. Castro starts a revolution to take back his country and empower his people. The U.S. officials and U.S. corporations (as well as the mafia) are pissed off that he kicked them out and took over their enterprises (this is called nationalizing…..it’s pretty much what we just did to Fanny and Freddie during the bailout.) He redistributed the land and money (starting with his own family’s land) to the people of Cuba. He was globally isolated and ostracized due to the U.S. bullying other nations into an embargo with Cuba as “punishment.” Given no other option, he became communist and partnered with the Soviet Union who could provide economic support.

 

That’s why the U.S. hates Cuba and that’s why it’s poor. That land, its people and its leader (whom the U.S. and the mafia have jointly tried to assassinate hundreds of times) have been subjected to abject poverty continuing Cuba’s history of standing up to U.S. corporate greed and influence.

 

Another little known fact in the history of Castro and Cuba is the immense help he has provided to African nations fighting for thier independence from European colonialism. He sent Cuban troops to help Angola fight the Apartheid South African regime and he also sent Cuban forces to fight in Ethiopia. He was greeted as a hero on his trip to Harlem in 1960 and in 1995 because of his record of fighting for Black independence. In addition, Nelson Mandela has praised his dedication to securing freedom for Africans. Recently, after hearing of the destruction done in the largely Black city of New Orleans after Katrina, Castro sent Cuban doctors and nurses, some of the best in the world, to help only to be turned away by the Bush Administration.

 

This is the Castro and Cuba the corporate media and the U.S. establishment does not want you to know about.

EXPLOSIVE FILM ON THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY

This documentary, “Big Bucks, Big Pharma,” is a fascinating film on the wicked methods and practices that the pharmaceutical industry uses to market their products.

 

In their endless pursuit of profits, the drug industry has left no stone uncovered. Two of the more devious and deceptive practices pointed out in the film are the outright creating of illnesses that need thier medications (as in “Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder,” “Restless Leg Syndrome” and, my personal favorite, the “Restless Mind”) and taking old drugs whos patents have expired, changing thier name, then marketing them as a completely new and different drug.

 

Watching this film will definately give you a completely different view of the barrage of commercials for prescription drugs. It will also shed light on the interrelationship between the drug industry, the public relations industry and federal regulators.

 

This documentary is another definate must see. So before running to your doctor for a prescription for what a Merck sponsored commercial just described as Generalized Anxiety Disorder, watch “Big Bucks, Big Pharma”….more than likely you’re probably just experiencing a normal bout of shyness!

THE HISTORY OF CHRISTMAS

Ever heard of Mithra? Oden? How about Saturnalia? Where did Christmas trees and Yule Logs come from? Did you know that at one time celebrating Christmas was illegal? These are just a few of the facts of Christmas that most people know nothing about.

 

This documentary by The History Channel goes into the origins of what we now know as Christmas. From its pagan Nordic and Germanic roots right down to it’s assimilation of European pagan gods and rituals by the early Christians for political reasons, the factual history of the most popular American holiday have never been in dispute……it’s just that most folks don’t seem to care.

638 WAYS TO KILL CASTRO

Below is a 2006 documentary detailing many of the government’s plots to assassinate Cuban leader Fidel Castro. As documented in a previous post (Church Committee Report on U.S. Spy Agencies), it was discovered that the CIA was illegally engaging in these assassination attempts that ranged from exploding cigars and femme fatales to rigging a radio station with poison gas and devising a plan to make his beard fall off.

 

Of note in this documentary is the appearance of Orlando Bosch and Luis Posada Carriles. These men are two known terrorists that have found safe haven in the United States. Bosch has even been labeled “an unrepentant terrorist” as well as “the greatest terrorist in the hemisphere.”

 

I guess the U.S. doesn’t consider itself a “state sponsor of terror” for backing Bosch’s many terrorists acts nor does the U.S. consider itself to be “harboring terrorists” as Bosch and his accomplice Carriles live peacefully in Miami!

COINTELPRO: THE FBI’S WAR ON BLACK AMERICA

This is a documentary on the FBI’s Counter-Intelligence program, or  COINTELPRO. COINTELPRO was devised by J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI to “prevent the rise of a Black Messiah” that could mobilize the Black community and youth. This covert operation engaged in infiltration, spying, planting false stories in the media, creating rivalries between Black organizations and, through the use of agent provacateurs, creating dissension between members and leaders within organizations. Groups and individuals targeted by COINTELPRO included Dr. King, The Nation of Islam, Fred Hampton, The Black Panthers, and The Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee to name a few.

THE CENTURY OF THE SELF (MUST SEE!)

The Century of the Self is a 4 part, BBC documentary on the use of Freud’s principles of psychology to control public thought and behavior. Focusing on Edward Bernays, Freud’s nephew and founder of the public relations industry, and Freud’s daughter Anna, The Century of the Self provides an historical perspective on the use of unconscious drives to subjugate individuals in service of business and political interests. Far from a relic of the past, many of these principles and practices are still in use today. (Wait till you see how Bernays got turn of the century women to start smoking at the urging of the tobacco industry!)

THE UNRELEASED PBS DOCUMENTARY ON TORTURE

Below are clips from the soon to be released PBS documentary on torture called “Torturing Democracy.” Documenting the rise of the use of torture after 9/11, the much anticipated documentary focuses on the torture memos of the Justice Department, Abu Ghraib and the American Gulag known as Guantanamo Bay. Shocking in its revelations, “Torturing Democracy” is yet another of the smoking guns documenting the rise of America as the world’s leading state sponsor of terror.
